Ernesto Nazareth (18631934) was a Brazilian composer and pianist whose works bridged classical music and popular genres like the choro, maxixe, and tango brasileiro.
"Tango Habanera" (composed in 1913) reflects the Afro-Cuban habanera rhythm (a precursor to the Argentine tango) filtered through Nazareths distinctively Brazilian sensibility.
This was part of a trend where Latin American composers mixed European salon music with African and Caribbean rhythms, creating something uniquely local.
