Composer's Note:

On the Wing was contrived originally (and perhaps a little puerilely) as a "Finally Escaping College!" piece. However, throughout the process of composition, it developed into something more autobiographical than whimsical outburst. The piece is reflective of film music which is my career pursuite; its nature is lively and uplifted (two of my own attributes when not perpetually exhausted.) There is a soaring liberty in the construct of the melody, indicating my love of flight, yet a folk like melody as well exhibiting my more western roots. These are in turn transformed, one having a more religious quality whilst the other something akin to a an academic solemn occasion (graduation complete with chimes, my personal instrument the piano, and ... a cell phone?) These themes one will notice are tightly related. This is due to composing using a set of motives which were in turn transformed, manipulated and strung toegether to create, melodies, baselines, characters, etc. Good luck finding them all! The piece could be considered in Sonata Form with a stable development section, and rather than a recapitulation features a "recombination."
