This arrangement (for viola and piano) consists of Ballades No. 2 and 4 from Four Ballades, Op. 10, for piano solo by Johannes Brahms. The two ballades, when played together, last about 16 minutes. They make good companion pieces to the two sonatas, Op. 120, that Brahms composed for viola (or clarinet) and piano. The difficulty level for both instruments is advanced-intermdiate. There are no pedal markings in the piano part as the use of the pedal is too personal and subtle to indicate in a piano part by Brahms. Pianists will know just what to do in that area.
