The lorry Drivers Lunch is a collection of tunes composed largely in the style of English folk dance tunes. They are so named because the majority of them were written during lunch breaks as a Lorry Driver. Having been a teacher, and a music teacher to boot, for many years the idea of doing nothing during a lunch break was completely alien to the composer, so when he took a break from teaching to drive lorries it was a shock to discover he was forced to sit idle for 45 minutes by law! Having had a great holiday in Ireland, and inspired by their pub music sessions, he duly stuffed a manuscript book and a descant recorder into his driving bag and used at least part of that time on most days to write a tune, which would then be recorded on phone video in the evening at home. There are now more than 400 of them! This third suite, for Concert Wind Band, includes a hornpipe Buckland Brewer , a slower air - A Sigh, The School Room Waltz and finishes with a march Home Time!
