"Destined for Adventure" brings to mind concepts that demand some level of gravitas and bombast, and the full-bodied sound of a (non-traditional) string quintet provides this. Shifting tonal centers allude to the different stages of a heroic journey and the unexpectedness of each. The minor ending reminds the audience that the adventure is destined, not achieved; someone still has to live out the adventure in order to bring about a triumphal ending.
Lasting approximately five minutes (~5 min.), "Destined for Adventure" remains melodic and tonal despite its brief and frequent visits to other keys. While designed for five players, the parts can be doubled for an orchestra's worth of string players to enjoy. It is appropriate for a wide variety of contexts, including recitals.
