Product Description
This piece is very much in the German and British tradition of a cappella choral works, and it is as "American" as my works are likely to get; I enjoy using such rhythmic and harmonic elements manneristically, as my otherwise Victorian compositional language is spiced up considerably, I believe, by their organic inclusion. Perhaps one can discover my love of the dynamic and adventurous a cappella works of MacDowell?
The general atmosphere of this piece, in rondo form, with a hymn-like tune for the refrain, is to create lots of opportunities for development and commentary in the middle of each iteration of the original refrain, so that, as is normal in my works in this bent, the form of this piece is determined by structural and motivic considerations, not by any perceived need for accessibility.
The Texas Anthems Project mentioned on the front is a compositional catalogue for my sacred choral anthems that I have devised. Starting with this choral work, I am labelling each one with the name of one of the 254 counties of the state of Texas, the first in this list being Jackson County. This is an ongoing project, in which I am starting out with the counties which have been adversely affected by Hurricane Harvey.
