Product Description

You don't have to be rich to rule my world... or to afford arrangements of Prince songs that actually groove.

This chart was written to follow one fundamental, though oft ignored, principle of quality funk music: the groove rules all.
If you keep that in mind, your ensemble will have audiences around the world displaying uncontrollable urges to get up and dance like there's no tomorrow, and this tune will be one of many tools in the arsenal of your well-oiled 4-person rhythm machine!

This arrangement makes extensive use of modern extended string techniques in order to create a rhythmic foundation without the need for additional rhythm instruments, including chopping and strum bowing. If you are unfamiliar with these concepts, various resources exist all over the internet to aid you in your quest towards having better time. I recommend this series, for example: https://youtu.be/kfX3kxjC93s

That being said, if broadening your horizons to the world of percussive string playing just doesn't sound like your cup of tea, I have included a Rhythm Section Chart for performances with drums/percussion, guitar, bass, etc. It is highly recommended for you to use either the chopping parts or rhythm section musicians. If you use neither, your ensemble is going to end up sounding something like the attached MIDI demo mp3, and I think we can agree that sounds downright awful.

On a related note... if anyone buys this arrangement and records an actual live performance with the chopping parts, I would love it if you sent it to me so that I can get rid of that horrible MIDI demo. I'm serious. Someone please record this. My soul needs to hear this chart played by someone who swings better than a robot...

Performance time - approximately 3:45, although if you really need to stretch for time you could create a vamp from letter E to letter F and trade some solos. I'm not saying that's your only option, but that's what I would do and I wrote the thing, so...

Questions? Feel free to contact me via my website, www.kylepudenz.com/ or on the 'Insta @theviolinvagabond.
Or, again, if you want to SEND ME A RECORDING... please, you'll be doing me (and the world) a huge favor
