Product Description
I never get tired of looking at the manger scene during the holidays and thinking about the way God chose to bring Himself into the world. The amazing story of Jesuss mercy and forgiveness began for many of us in the songs of Christmas; I think Away in a Manger is the most innocent and tender of them all.
Two melodies have been written for this song; I have used both tunes here, along with a touch of a famous lullaby you are certain to recognize! The double bar lines show where each Away in a Manger melody begins, and each section could be used as a tiny piece of music itself. As an entire piece it is beautiful as a Christmas-time prelude, offertory or a holiday recital piece for an advanced intermediate to advanced student.
The simple lines of the melodies take turns being played by right and left hands with one instance of a hand crossing. A few fingerings are suggested in the various accompaniment patterns, and pedaling is left up to your sensitive ear. Large hands are not necessary to play this piece; a tender touch will make it glow. Allow the ending to linger...it will satisfy you and your listeners with a sense of peace.
