Silent Durations XXVII (a Zen experience) was written for Rumanian viola virtuoso Cornelia Petroiu and premiered by her in Bucharest. The work explores the many expressive and timbral qualities of this instrument. These Silent Duration pieces are notable for their incorporation of silence as an integral part of the compositional fabric. Versions for both viola and violin are included with the score. The duration is 15'30.

Silent Durations XXVII was premiered by Cornelia Petriou at the Filarmonica "Georg Enescu" in Bucharest, Rumania on February 10, 2010.
