Product Description

This beautiful English Christmas Carol, also known as "Hymn for Christmas Day," has been arranged for a string quartet. The Violin 3 part is the same as the Viola part in case a Viola player is not available. For the first verse, each instrument carries the melody for 4 measures, beginning with the cello. The Viola (Violin 3) then takes the melody while the cello adds harmony. The next 4 measures add the Violin 2 on the melody and lastly broadening into full 4-part harmony with Violin 1 finishing out the chorus on the melody. After a short interlude the piece continues through the song again in full 4-part harmony concluding with a repeat of the interlude and chorus.

This is an excellent arrangement for a beginning to intermediate string group since all notes can be played in the first position on all instruments. Ranges are as follows: Violin 1--G4 to G5; Violin 2 --B3 to D5; Violin 3 (Viola)--G3 to A4; Cello--C2 to C4.
