Composition of this work began with the middle movement in Boulder, Colorado. It is straightforward, harmonious and melodic. The second movement, composed in Utrecht, Holland. It is energetic with some challenging metrical changes. The sedate final movement, composed in Boulder, Colorado, is structured around the tritone articulated as a dyad and separate pitches. The melodic aspect of the movement takes several interesting and, perhaps, unexpected turns.
