This lovely tune from the Orchestral Suite no.3 in D major BWV1068 is the second movement of the suite
composed by Bach around 1730 for strings and continuo (harpsichord and bass) but it's not hard to play on the guitar!
In 1871 August
Wilhelmj added on the G string to the title and it has stuck. I have arranged it in the original key of D major with a
dropped D tuning in the bass string, giving the piece a deep sonority.
The beauty of the
piece lies in the interweaving of the top voices against the slow moving bass
line. In the score of the suite it is easy to show this by the separation of
instruments, but in my solo guitar arrangement I have followed Bachs example
of making the music look easy to read by simplifying the part writing.
