This is a piece about the town of Stromness in the Orkney Islands, which was the last European port of call for many immigrants from the British Isles, Germany, and Scandinavia on their way to the new world. I have tried to imagine the mindset of these people (who included my own ancestors), and put their thoughts of determination, worry and hope, into music.
