Product Description

This new arrangement of the 19th-century hymn for SATB choir and piano accompaniment features an optional a capella section, stanzas for men's and women's voices, and a key change before the final stanza. The accompaniment and voice parts are all simple and accessible for any church choir in a traditional worship setting. Liturgical use: Dr. Matheson, who wrote the lyrics, said that the words came to him as a healing response to suffering, and the hymn is often used during Lent. Other appropriate topics for use include spiritual comfort for the afflicted, and funeral or memorial services. The hymn in its original form was said to be President Coolidge's favorite, and was sung at his funeral.
