Product Description

Composed in 1686, this is probably the oldest known original instrumental Duo for the violin family.
Visee wrote the Suite for guitar but published in his "Livre de Guitare" the Suite also for violin and cello, either to be played in his words (in French) as Duo or added to the guitar.
The publication here is in the original key of D minor There are 9 movements to this Suite, the common French Suite movements Prelude, Allemande, Courante, Sarabande, 2 Menuet's and Gigue plus a Gavotte and Bourree - either as a choice or sometimes maybe played all.
The Suite in D minor is very well known for guitar, the most performed Suite of the French Baroque and many recordings can be heard and seen online.
Although Visee himself transcribed the Suite for instrumental Duo, this is the first available arrangement.
The original is written in an unusual key, the cello is in bass clef, but the violin in the "French violin clef", only used in France for less than 100 years. Compared to the bass clef, it is exactly 2 octaves higher, so when reading it through we could sight read it before we knew about the range of the clef. Compared to the treble clef, all notes are one line lower in the French violin clef.
In this edition a photo of one movement, the Bourre  is included as well as an artwork depicting Visee on lute plus the violin and cello player - the artwork probably depicting just the work hewe published.
