One of the saddest and most memorable themes in operatic music is Henry Purcell's "Didos Lament".
here an arrangement for 2 or 3 cellos. cello 1 plays the sung melody. Cello 2 is a mix of accompaniment, always picking the most moving and interesting part - including the original cello ground bass here and there.
Cello 3 is the ground bass.
Both cello 1 and 2 are sufficient to accompany cello 1.
