Product Description
This arrangement of Henry Francis Lyte's hymn "Abide with Me", set to William Henry Monk's melody "Eventide" is dedicated to Phyl Griffith (1936 to 2018) - a loving Sister, Aunt, Great Aunt, Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother. The last verse has an optional descant and alternative harmonies.
"Abide with Me" is a poem written by Scottish Anglican H. F. Lyte who wrote it in 1847, which he set to music three weeks before he passed away. The hymn is a prayer for God to remain present with the speaker throughout life, through trials, and through death - alluding to verses from Luke 24:29 and 1 Corinthians 15:55.
The hymn is a popular choice in many Christian denominations, often sung at funerals. It was said to be the favourite hymn of King George V of the United Kingdom and Mahatma Gandhi. It was played at the funeral of US President Richard M. Nixon.
