Product Description

Musica notturna delle strade di Madrid (Night Music of the Streets of Madrid), Opus 30 No. 6 (G. 324), was a quintet) for stringed instruments (ca. 1780), by Luigi Boccherini (1743-1805). Originally scored for 2 violins, viola and 2 cellos, I adapted this and rearranged it for string quartet. It has been used in various movies, notably in Master and Commander (2003). The music is exuberant and depicts the night life of Madrid around a military outpost. Drums are heard and various night sounds including cats and bells from a local church. Fun to play and not too difficult. Not for sight reading but a good quartet can play it after a run through rehearsal. Great for for weddings, concerts and reception background music. The composer had strong feelings about how it should be played. He was quoted to have said, "The piece is absolutely useless, even ridiculous, outside Spain, because the audience cannot hope to understand its significance, nor the performers to play it as it should be played." So take note to listen to recordings and think about how you want it to sound !
