The repertoire in Book II chosen by L.A. Cellist Wendy Velasco from the works of Barbara Arens moves beyond the first four positions and is intended for students in Suzuki levels 4-6. Technical challenges include: fast string crossings, the introduction of tenor and treble clefs, thumb position, big chords and asymmetrical rhythms. There are three jazzy pieces to develop a feel of swung eighth notes, along with racy pieces like 'Salamanca' and 'Rondo alla Tarantella', 'Twilight Tango', and, the composer's personal favourite:'Variations'.  Each piece has preparation exercises by Wendy Velasco explaining how to approach the technical and musical challenges.
