This collection contains 10 hymns arranged for two piano players with different skill levels. Nine of the songs in this collection of 1 piano, 4 hands, mixed-level piano duets are arranged for a beginning student to play the PRIMO while an intermediate player (teacher, parent, friend, sibling) plays the SECONDO. All notes in the PRIMO for these 9 songs are played singly with the hands in one position centered around middle C (Middle C Position) and then played one or two octaves higher.
For the other one of the 10 songs, "Redeemed," the easy part is the SECONDO. Adding a fun twist to this arrangement, the SECONDO begins the song by playing the melody an octave below Middle C position while the PRIMO plays the harmony as a descant. After the first verse and chorus, the SECONDO moves up one octave to Middle C position during an interlude and then slides right again for the second verse and chorus to play the melody one octave above Middle C. While the SECONDO is sliding to the right, the PRIMO gets up and moves to the left and plays the second half of the song in the bass clef. There's just enough time during the interlude (played by the SECONDO) for the PRIMO player to switch positions.
For each song, there is a combined score (grand staff) with both piano parts on each page plus the alternate format with the PRIMO and SECONDO on separate pages. Lyrics are included on each PRIMO part for sing along enjoyment. In addition, since the song "Redeemed" is longer and requires the players to change positions, a condensed version of the song is included which uses a smaller font and no lyrics thus allowing for fewer page turns. Each song also includes an optional repeat in case a longer song is desired.
These fun-to-learn arrangements are a welcome addition to the piano repertoire for beginning students and suitable for a first performance in a church setting. Each song is also available separately with accompanying preview pages and audio samples.
