Product Description

For Bb Soloist (Cornet, Flugelhorn, Euphonium) and Brass Band. Although we know it by the lyrics/poem written in the early 1800s by Irishman Thomas Moore inspired by a particular rose, the music is based on a traditional song of the late 1700s called "Aisling an Óigfhear" (A Young Man's Dream). The lyrics tell of a single surviving rose as a metaphor for the sadness we feel when our loved ones pass, and we carry on alone. It remains popular with many covers such as Anne Meredith's version in 2016, many usages in films including Anya Taylor-Joy's performance in the 2020 film adaptation of "Emma" which is based on Jane Austen's novel "Emma", and even in classical cultures, such as Benjamin Britten's "Folksong Arrangements". This setting does more than just reiterated the verse of the song. One could say it is a 3-minute concerto as it includes secondary melodic fragments and even a cadenza. It's great for recitals, concerts, memorials, and other special occasions. Duration ~3:05. 31 pages
