This SAB choir anthem is a timeless, beautiful expression of the Beatitudes text from Matthew, Chapter 5 (NRSV): "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven..." The simplistic, mantra-like setting highlights the deep meaning of the text with the final, hopeful conclusion that conveys deepest meaning: "Rejoice and be glad..."
