Product Description
Simon Mayor presents seven short pieces for solo guitar on themes by Turlough OCarolan.
Turlough OCarolan is one of Irelands most celebrated baroque composers, responsible for some of the strongest and grandest melodies to come out of his homeland. He was a great friend of his Italian contemporary Corelli, who spent some time in Dublin and had a significant influence on OCarolans music. But traditional music was an influence too, and, stylistically, his compositions occupy a fascinating middle ground between these two genres.
These solos are in standard EADGBE or DADGBE (drop D) tuning. They last up to 3 minutes, and are suitable for the intermediate classical or steel string fingerstyle guitarist. Music is in both standard notation and tablature with detailed fingering.
Contents: Katharine OMore, Carlans Frolics, Dolly McDonough, All Alive, Si Bheagh Si Mhor, Carolans Concerto, Carolans Dream.
The audio sample here is of Dolly McDonough, the YouTube link is Carolan's Frolics but you can find Simon Mayor online playing other pieces from this collection.
