Product Description

This 8-minute work for SATB chorus and piano is essentially a Buddhist 'Magnificat', the storyher of awakening of faith by the ancient queen Vaidehi, who takes refuge in the savior-Buddha Amida (a.k.a. Amitayus) as explained in the Buddhist Contemplation Sutra, the teaching of Shakyamuni Buddha. In the sutra, Shakyamuni shows her all the Buddha-lands and she selects, as her desired place of rebirth, the Land of Peace and Bliss, called Sukhavati or the Pure Land. She learns of being reborn in the Pure Land through reciting the Holy Name of Amida Buddha, pronounced "Namu Amida Butsu." The Contemplation Sutra is one of three great ancient sutras about the salvation in the Pure Land of Amida Buddha.
