This Christian contemporary song is based on Psalm 22, Davids incredible prophecy of Jesus crucifixion, written 1000 years before Christ was born. Its fitting for a "praise band" of piano, guitar, bass, drums and vocals. Includes guitar chords and reproducible lead sheet.

This song is part of my "True Songs" contemporary Christian collection, all available on this site. Videos of this entire collection are available on my YouTube channel, "Jayne Nitz."

Fitting for: Lent, Good Friday
Hymn tune:
inspired by "O MEIN JESU, ICH MUSS STERBEN," better known as "Stricken, Smitten, and Afflicted"
Scripture: Psalm 22

Lyrics:
God, my God, why wont you answer when Im pleading for relief?
Through the darkness, into daylight, I cry out in pain and grief.
Holy One enthroned in heaven, you inspire our trust and praise.
Please, deliver me from danger, LORD of all from ancient days.

In the dust of death I linger and the dogs are closing in.
Evil men have circled round me, even while I bear their sin.
Pour my life out like a river; break my heart and count my bones.
See them staring, pointing, laughing; throwing insults just like stones.

"You delighted in your Father, let your Father come to save.
Well believe you if He frees you," words that haunt me to my grave.
They divide my clothes among them, but I know you hear my prayer.
Still I love you; still I trust you. Take my soul into your care.

We cant stop lifes running river; only you reverse its flow.
You will raise me in my body; ev'ryone on earth will know.
Generations will remember how the Father sent His Son,
Their release from sins dark wages. It is finished; it is done.
